As RN in the Emergency Department (ED), you will help patients feel comfortable, at ease and supported while receiving treatment. This position requires a caregiver who is empathetic, understanding and nurturing to ensure quality patient care and effective life-saving treatment. This PRN position allows for numerous opportunities to explore educational development courses, advance the professional ladder at Cleveland Clinic and provide a healthy work-life balance.     

A caregiver in this position works 4 12-hour shifts from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. in a 6-week schedule with weekend rotation and 1 holiday per year

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide direct nursing care. 
  • Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.  
  • Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.  
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments. 
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 
  • Educate patients and their families.   

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing  
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications through American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of hire 
  • Completion of a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) within two years of hire 
  • One year of current acute care and/or ED RN experience OR licensed military RN experience 
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)
  • Experience as an ER Tech, EMT or Paramedic 
  • Completion of ER practicum or preceptorship

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible
