Description

Verily’s internship is a paid 13 week program for rising seniors, either undergraduate or graduate students, who are interested in working at the intersection of technology, data science and healthcare. The program is designed for Mechanical or Product Design Engineering students, and again this year we encourage students who have been historically underrepresented in this field to explore the program, which is a pathway towards full-time employment within Verily. This includes but is not limited to: women, Black/African-American, Latine/Hispanic, Native American, people with disabilities, veterans and members of the LGBTQ+ community. 

Join our Product Design Team to contribute to the development of a revolutionary AI-enabled imaging device through design, prototyping, testing and analysis using data driven decisions to refine product performance.  Being the liaison between multiple cross functional groups spanning industrial design, user experience research, test, failure analysis, manufacturing, product management, quality and clinical, you are at the center of new product development activities.  Great communication, solid engineering fundamentals and a growth mindsets are key to success in this role.  

You, as our Product Design Engineering Intern, will be paired with and assist a senior engineer with a well-defined project contributing to early engineering build design, prototyping and characterization of a camera subsystem.  You will have exposure to the broader project and company.  Days will be spent between workstation, machine shop and lab where you will be designing, prototyping, building, testing and analyzing systems you have made.

Responsibilities 

• Design and document electro-optical-mechanical systems for medical applications within a quality regulated framework.  
• Conceptualize, design, prototype and evaluate subsystem and system level prototypes and test fixtures.
• Work with materials, test and failure analysis teams to evaluate and troubleshoot system builds and assemblies for reliability.
• Analyze collected test data and iterate designs/processes based on findings.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Currently enrolled in university as a full-time graduate student in Mechanical Engineering or related field with an anticipated graduation date on or before the end of 2024.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Experience with Solidworks CAD part/assembly design and creating engineering drawings.
• Experience with design, modeling and prototyping of opto-mechanical or  electro-mechanical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• MS+ in mechanical engineering or related field with at least 1 year of experience in the industry (prior internship or coop experience applicable).
• Experience with data collection and data presentation (process excellence principles).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional peers from a wide range of technical backgrounds.
• Awareness of reliability, testing and failure analysis. 
• Experience with or awareness of common manufacturing processes (CNC machining, 3d printing, injection molding, etc). 

The US base pay range for this intern position is $50.48 - $61.06. Our pay ranges are determined by role, education level, experience, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay ranges for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
