Sr. Network Engineer – Core Resources Datacenter

The Sr. Network Engineer's primary job responsibility is to work closely with the other members of the Infrastructure and Operations teams to assess network connectivity requirements and implement standard (and sometimes bepoke) network solutions and mainstain state of good repair. These network services include but not limited to) core, distribution, access, WAN and edge layer routers and switches , Next-Gen Firewalls, and Application/Server Load Balancers at NYP’s campuses and data centers

General Responsibilities

*Provide technical leadership on large service projects that require network services.

* Create configuration files and templates for network switches and routers

* Create cable matrix and deployment runbooks.

* Assemble and rack mount network hardware

* Automate provisioning and onboarding of services.

* Create new VLANs, configure new interfaces, configure routing and switching protocols, configure Access Control Lists

* Determines and predicts impact of any assigned network moves, additions, changes, and decommissions

* Works on configuration tasks aimed at standardizing switch and router configuration settings per hardware and software platform

* Effectively communicates status, issues, and risks to implementation schedules

* Works with NYP vendors

* Flexible with frequent off-hour deployment schedules (early mornings, late nights, weekends)

* Should be able to lift and move heavy network equipment

Key Criteria

* Arista switch\routing platforms

* Routing protocols (OSPF\BGP\EVPN\MLAG)

* Proficiency in NOS

* Cisco VSS/vPC, Mutli-chassis EtherChannel/Multi-chassis Link Aggregation.

* Proficiency in network analysis tools and packet capture capabilities and interpretation.

* Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve network \ application \ system incidents.

* Knowledge of network security controls and network access control models and measures.

* Palo Alto NGFW (all models) design and support experience.

* F5 LTM/GTM Adminstration and irule configuration.

* Scripting skills in languages such as Python\Ansible for network administration and automation purposes

* Excellent communication skills (oral and written).

Required Criteria:

  • BSCS/EE or equivalent work experience required
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) +  years support experience for network infrastructure products
  • Thorough working knowledge of OSI model and the interaction between the layers
  • Advanced expertise with TCP/IP networking concepts. Knowledge of authentication protocols (including RADIUS and LDAP), and Network Management Systems (EMS/NMS) is required.
  • CCNP-level mastery of BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, STP, TCP, UDP, NAT, HSRP/VRRP, VRF, QoS, Ethernet, Inter- and Intra-domain multicast is essential. 
  • Experience working with Cisco, Arista, and HP networking product as well as solid experience with packet tracing/sniffing tools. 
  • Knowledge of authentication protocols (including RADIUS and LDAP), and Network Management Systems (EMS/NMS)
  • Strong work ethic, “can-do/will do” attitude
  • Advanced expertise with TCP/IP networking concepts
  • Knowledge of authentication protocols (including RADIUS and LDAP), and Network Management Systems (EMS/NMS)
  • Experience working with Cisco, Arista, and HP networking product as well as solid experience with packet tracing/sniffing tools
  • Hardware platforms: Cisco 6500, 4500, 3850, Arista 7xxx series multi-layer switches, and Cisco 2800, 2900, 3800, 3900, ASR1K series routers.

Required Criteria:

  • Palo Alto NGFW (all models) design and support experience.
