As the Construction Paving Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of paving projects across Vermont. You will provide expert guidance to Resident Engineers and Inspection Staff, review plans and specifications, identify training needs, and actively participate in committees and special assignments. This is an opportunity to leverage your technical knowledge and field experience to make a tangible difference in the state's transportation network and have a positive impact on the lives of the traveling public.
Responsibilities:
- Safety First: Uphold the highest standards of safety, civility, and customer service, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Field Support: Provide timely and accurate technical advice to field personnel on paving materials, construction techniques, plans, specifications, and design.
- Constructability Review: Analyze project plans and specifications, ensuring they align with best practices and constructability.
- Training & Development: Identify training needs for field personnel and recommend or conduct training sessions on construction procedures, protocols, and best practices.
- Committee Participation: Actively contribute your expertise to technical committees like the TechPave Performance Working Group, AOT Standard Specifications for Construction Committee, and others.
- Special Assignments: Take on additional tasks assigned by the Construction Services Engineer or committee chairs.

Environmental Factors
Duties are generally performed in both office and field settings for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND six (6) years of engineering experience.
OR
Licensure as a Professional Engineer AND five (5) years of engineering experience.
OR
Associates degree in degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND eight (8) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as an Engineer Intern.
