Position Title: Program Director of Wellness and Health Promotion.
Department: The Wellness Center.
Classification: Exempt.
FTE: 1.0.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with evening and weekend hours required for events; travel up to 2% of the work schedule, which includes local (Twin Cities metro area) and national travel; overnight trips average 2 trips per year
Work Location: On Campus.
Salary Range: $68,000 - $77,000.
Position Overview:
To employ a public health framework and person-centered approach to coordinate Wellness Center activities and outreach at St. Olaf. This position will work with and within the nine areas of wellness to develop educational programs that focus on increasing help-seeking behaviors, debunking health myths and empowering students to live more balanced and healthy lives. The nine areas of wellness include emotional, physical, sexual, financial, substance, intellectual, spiritual, social, and environmental.
Essential Job Duties:
- Advising and Supervision – 50% of time.
- Advise and mentor individual students and student organizations regarding the nine areas of wellness.
- Make culturally appropriate and inclusive referrals to resources.
- Recruit, hire, train, and manage student employees for the Wellness Center.
- Provide informal advising and support for the mental wellbeing and adjacent student organizations.
- Provide support and oversight of monthly wellness programming.
- Meet regularly with student staff to provide guidance and mentorship.
- Plan agenda and facilitate weekly staff meeting.
- Create and facilitate a performance review process for student employees.
- Plan and facilitate student employee training and ongoing professional development.
- Educational Programming and Training – 30% of time.
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate age and culturally appropriate health promotion programming.
- Facilitate training for student leaders and paraprofessional staff.
- Educational and training topics include but are not limited to: alcohol and other drug use education, tobacco use prevention, human health, sexual health, violence prevention, nutrition, eating disorders/body image, mental health and stress management, resilience, self-care skills, and coping strategies.
- Review all educational posters and printed materials related to the nine areas of wellness for campus community.
- Develop wellness programming in collaboration with Student Activities for New Student Orientation.
- Work with Residence Life to disseminate wellness educational information in residential spaces.
- Coordinate Bystander Intervention training opportunities for the campus community.
- Maintain Wellness Center website and social media presence.
- Coordinate and facilitate the Mental Health First Aid training program on campus.
- Strategic Planning and Assessment – 10% of time.
- Conduct assessment to understand the needs, risks, and trends related to student health and well-being.
- Assist with student research as requested.
- Determine long-term development of Wellness Center programming and ensure its yearly operations are in line with the College mission.
- Create, administer, and interpret assessment and evaluation for Wellness Center programs and services to determine necessary program modifications.
- Coordinate implementation of the biennial review of AOD education and prevention programs for the Department of Education.
- Administration – 10% of time.
- Serve on Student Life and College-wide committees.
- Manage program budgets, expenditures and assess future program costs.
- Identify, recommend, and implement program modifications to accommodate campus needs and budget variations.
- Identify and raise external resources to support wellness initiatives (e.g. grants, gifts).
- Oversee day-to-day operations for Wellness Center.
- Coordinate academic credit for Kinesiology courses that require Wellness Center events.
