The Marine Professional Development Manager provides strategic guidance on professional development and career growth for all Marine Shipboard employees (Officers, Petty Officers and Ratings) supporting the establishment of criteria for career advancement in alignment with organizational goals; actively participates in the management of the promotion process for the entire Marine Shipboard workforce to maintain adherence to principles of transparence, fairness and equal opportunity. Contributes to Promotion Board Committees by providing essential information, analysis, and documentation to all relevant stakeholders to support decisions related to career advancement. Responsible for monitoring the progress and outcome of all Marine Profile Assessments (SOPPE) at C-smart and all Leadership and Managerial assessment/training at Utilia Maritime. Responsible for the development of Performance Improvement plans and Career Development plans for Shipboard Senior Leaders following promotion appraisals and/or as remedial actions. Responsible for leveraging data analytics and available tools to support Team’s strategy through actionable insights into workforce dynamics, performance, and professional growth. Oversees the development of reporting frameworks that inform decisions related to employee performance, leadership development, and career advancement.
Provides insights aimed at improving retention strategies through employees’ feedback and analysis of turnover trends; follows up on the onboarding experience and integration of newly hired officers, professional achievements such as licensing and certifications, promotion, and retirement ceremonies for Senior Leaders.
Partners with Shoreside Stakeholders and develops guidelines for the allocation of resources for special assignments; establishes workflows and criteria for the rollout of new positions to ensure a fair and equitable selection process. Optimizes reporting procedures to ensure internal consistency; partners with the Business Analytics team for the development of reporting tools and specific metrics to ensure compliance with operational and competency requirements; develops concepts and features for talent management systems and provides advanced expertise to the implementation of dedicated performance management tools. Contributes to enhance DEI values within the Marine shipboard workforce.
Essential Functions:
Manages the career progression of shipboard marine officers by monitoring license pauses and leaves of absence, conducting exit interviews in partnership with Shipboard HR, and delivering monthly performance analytics to the SVP Fleet Governance, Nautical and Marine Operation and Director of Professional Development. Gathers feedback from shipboard leaders on new hires and cadet apprentices, tracks sea time and readiness for licensing and certification, and coordinates promotion and retirement ceremonies to recognize career milestones.
Leads, organizes, and plans post-assessment feedback sessions with Marine Profile Assessment Team and Utilia Team to discuss candidates’ opportunities for development and prospects for growth. Analyses assessment graphs and reports and ensures recording and data collection are secured.
Collaborates closely with Shipboard HR to address performance management and employee relations, aligning development strategies with organizational standards and leadership goals. Responsible for developing Performance Improvement Plans and Career Development plans for Senior shipboard leaders. Develops and maintains dedicated tracking systems to ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
Oversees alongside Shipboard HR, the promotion process for Marine Officers, Petty Officers, and Ratings, ensuring transparency and adherence to established workflows. Conducts leadership-focused interviews and maintains consistent, accurate records to support fair and effective career advancement decisions.

Develops guidelines for the selection of candidates for special projects; conducts job and role analysis and revises job descriptions. Develops job descriptions for new Marine shipboard roles and prepares required documentation for the creation of new positions. Liaise with relevant POC within the Marine Professional Development Team to revise career path and mapping of competences.
