POSITION TITLE: Preventive Maintenance Mechanic

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Manager and/or the Preventative Maintenance Specialist, the Preventive Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the following:

Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) to all aspects of the physical plant equipment including but not limited to HVAC equipment, lighting systems, and plumbing components.
Provide support to the Operations Department in a variety of areas including HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Fabrication, and other general operational needs.
Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles used in the trade.
Report to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis with a strong attendance history.
Other duties may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/APTITUDES/REQUIREMENTS:

Working knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) systems found in school buildings.
Ability to work from and read sketches, blueprints, and specification manuals from oral or written instructions.
Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical ability to perform demanding tasks including lifting, bending, climbing, and working from ladders and lifts or scaffolding.
Must be willing to work under adverse weather conditions.
Varied work day (hours can vary from 1st shift 7:00am�3:30pm to 2nd shift 11:00am�7:30pm and others as necessary).
Capable of representing the school District in a professional manner, which includes but is not limited to confidentiality, communication skills, and ability to present a professional personal image.
Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
Ability to problem solve independently and with others.
Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid Iowa State Driver's license with a record that's satisfactory to the District and the District's insurance carrier (required).

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff and students. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently. Applicants must be able to climb up and down ladders and work from a platform lift. Sufficient physical strength and ability to perform manual labor and to work from ladders and scaffolding. Must be in excellent physical condition. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while working with equipment, computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.
