Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Counselor 3 to work at the DuQuoin Impact Program serving in both field services and reentry.  In this role  you will be part of a diverse team who provides opportunities designed to assist individuals in making a successful transition from a corrections environment to the community. These opportunities not only help individuals to develop and enhance their skillsets, but they also better equip them to be a productive member of society. This position coordinates reentry programming, prepares and disseminates release documents, performs counseling and case management functions and serves as a liaison for DCFS, Veteran’s Services,  SSA and Secretary of State. Job Responsibilities

1. Prepares and disseminates release documents and conducts Offender 360 (O360) input for individual’s release plans.
2. Coordinates reentry programming for Individuals.
3. Performs counseling and case management functions to help prepare individuals to release to the community.
4. Serves as a liaison for enhancement of the reentry program initiatives, fostering a relationship that utilizes community resources and parole staff to empower and prepare the individual for reentry into society.
5. Serves as the liaison for the Department of Children and Family Services, Veteran’s Services (Federal and state), the Social Security Administration, and Secretary of State.
6. Coordinates Re-Entry Prep Program.
7. Maintains Release a working tickler file for each individual assigned to Du Quoin Structured Impact Program.
8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with a bachelor’s degree in behavioral or social sciences.
2. Requires two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in corrections, behavioral, social sciences, or related field.
3. Requires written and spoken knowledge of the English language.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefers at least three years (3) years of professional experience providing linkage to community organizations and/or state agencies.
2. Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience working with state and county housing entities.
3. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience providing assistance with placement or transition into to the community.
4. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in working with state and county agencies, or equivalent, regarding registry requirements for criminal convictions.
5. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with individuals on reducing barriers for employment.
6. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in case
