The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, the Edu/Trng Program Manager II   (Water Distribution Instructor) position serves as the University of Florida’s Training, Research, and Education for Environmental Occupations (UF TREEO) Center’s Water Distribution program manager, lead instructor, and outreach coordinator.  The position is responsible for leading a team to develop new courses and refresh existing courses to meet industry certification and continuing education requirements. It is also responsible for engaging and developing partnerships with trade organizations and ensuring offerings meet federal and state regulations.

The essential functions of this position are as follows:

Prepares and instructs Water Distribution System and Cross Connection Control courses for operators, testers, repair technicians, and others at the TREEO Center in Gainesville, across Florida, and occasionally in other states. Directs and provides oversight to two contract instructors and one coordinator in the preparation and instruction of courses. Ensures contract instructors follow TREEO guidelines for training and that all content is delivered consistently. Evaluates the effectiveness of the training students receive based on the achievement of learning outcomes and institutes changes or adjustments to the curriculum as needed.

Responsible for ensuring courses meet current federal and state regulations. Responsible for leading a team to update existing course offerings and identify and develop new training topics and opportunities. Research market trends and works with industry leaders to design new online and face-to-face training courses. Provides oversight, monitoring, and evaluation of instructors and training sites across the state and at host sites outside of Florida.

Engages with local government officials, utility managers, and organizations to secure training and technical assistance projects for UF/TREEO. Represents UF/TREEO by maintaining membership in trade organizations such as ABPA, FWEA, FSAWWA, FWPCOA, participating in committees, and making presentations at conferences and trade shows. Identify exhibitors, speakers, and potential topics for the annual Cross Connection Control conference. This event includes providing training to water operators and backflow technicians across the state of Florida, advising on new procedures, assemblies, and training materials.

Provides support to the Florida Water and Wastewater Agency Response Network (FlaWARN) during natural or manmade emergencies.  Serves as a technical advisor and as an on-scene coordinator during emergencies when required.

Provide support to ensure Continuing Education Credits are uploaded to the Florida Department of Environmental Education Operator Certification Program.  Update the Backflow database as needed with course data, descriptions, student data, and course completions. Inspect, repair, and support the maintenance of equipment, including but not limited to backflow prevention assemblies, test kits, gauges, pipes, and valves.
