Summary of Role

The Medical Director, Oncology Medical Affairs, will play an essential role in shaping and executing the medical strategy for oncology diagnostics and therapeutics. This professional will provide clinical and scientific expertise, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to support product development, regulatory submissions, and commercialization. Key responsibilities include assisting with medical strategy, ensuring cross-functional strategic alignment, and supporting the integrated evidence planning process. This role demands a strategic thinker with strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships within the medical and scientific community to advance innovative treatments and improve patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions 

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead or assist in leading the oncology Global Medical Affairs Team and contribute to the development of the integrated medical affairs strategy (annual and / or launch planning) and budget for the oncology diagnostic and therapeutic areas.
  • Support the execution of the strategic plan with initiatives delivered on-time, within budget, and with measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure strategic and cross-functional alignment across the organization and any joint ventures to achieve the medical mission of supporting safe and appropriate use of a particular brand(s)/projects.
  • Serve as a member of the Prostate Global Medical Affairs team, contributing to informed decision-making.
  • Participate in the review and approval of IST concepts/protocols according to applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Clinical Expertise:

  • Demonstrate solid competencies as a Medical Expert within the Medical Affairs organization.
  • Stay updated on the latest scientific developments, clinical guidelines, and competitive oncology landscape.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Build positive, effective partnerships with cross functional colleagues (R&D, Commercial, Regulatory, and other departments) to support product development, regulatory submissions, and commercialization efforts.
  • Collaborate with Market Access and HEOR teams to develop and communicate the value proposition of oncology products.

Medical Education and Communication:

  • Support the development and dissemination of high-quality scientific and clinical content, including publications, presentations, and educational materials. 
  • Actively explore, plan, and implement innovative communications solutions – including through digital channels – to address strategic and scientific gaps.
  • Represent the company at scientific conferences, advisory boards, and other external engagements.


KOL Engagement:

  • Support development of a strong medical engagement plan with team, incorporating diverse medical functions and capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, and advocacy groups in the oncology community.
  • Facilitate advisory boards and expert panels to gather insights and feedback on company products and strategies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctorate level degree (MD, PharmD, DO, or PhD in Health Sciences or related field) with significant relevant clinical experience required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of clinical or research experience gained from academics, clinical practice or through roles in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience, with a focus on oncology.
  • Strong track record of leadership in Medical Affairs, including strategic planning and execution.
