Senior Food Safety Officer (517207)

The Team: Public Health Services works to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians. We partner with individuals, groups and communities statewide and nationally to achieve this outcome.

The Role: The Senior Food Safety Officer leads and coordinates the Department of Health's food safety team to implement policy and legislation concerning food safety. The position provides specialist food safety and regulatory advice to government departments, local government and industry and represents Tasmania on national and bi-national working groups relevant to food safety.

The role involves:

• Developing and implementing statewide programs to manage food safety
• Providing expert technical, regulatory, strategic and policy advice regarding food safety issues 
• The development, implementation and/or evaluation of policy and legislation
• Preparing appropriate specialised food safety information for Departmental briefings and media presentations, including briefings for the Food Ministers meetings and Food Regulation Standing Committee (FRSC).

Details of appointment: Allied Health Professional, level 4

Permanent full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $123,717 to $134,336 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2022
• Please note that access to salaries beyond $126,845 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

• Satisfactory completion of an appropriate course of study* at a recognised tertiary institution

• *Study that meets the Director of Public Health’s “approved qualification” requirements for appointment as an Authorised Officer under the Food Act 2003
  
  
• Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered
