About the role

Description

The Accounting Assistant supports the Finance and Accounting Department in daily operations and reporting for the Latino Community Credit Union (LCCU) family of organizations, currently LCCU and Latino Community Development Center (LCDC). This position processes accounts payable and provides support and backup to other accounting and finance duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, pay, and file all accounts payable for the credit union.
  • Investigates payment and documentation and process issues with staff and vendors.
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger for various accounts as assigned.
  • Research and adjust all open items, cash imbalances, and variances.
  • Verify and balance teller activity from all locations.
  • Reconcile corporate credit card accounts.
  • Perform a variety of activities to assist the department in maintaining the financial, statistical, and accounting records of the credit union.
  • Organizes and maintains department record-keeping and files, including policies.
  • Identifies and recommends process improvement opportunities.
  • Prepares and files 1099s and other vendor-related documents for the credit union and affiliated organizations.
  • Maintains an updated W9 vendor file.
  • Assists with record-keeping for internal and external auditors.
  • Maintains up to date proficiency in relevant accounting software and systems.
  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliations.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Provide support and function as backup for other team members.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Business/Finance/Accounting or 2 years of related experience in accounting preferred.
  • Professional proficiency in English. Spanish fluency is not required but preferred.
  • Ability to understand and calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, and percentages.
  • Demonstrated people skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in QuickBooks, Excel, and other Microsoft Office products.
  • Must have the ability to learn other various software programs quickly.
  • Ability to manage time with strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively and proactively.
  • Team player, motivated to learn quickly and work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge in VBA, Power Query, SQL, Python, or Tableau is a plus.
