The Assistant Director, Recruitment successfully manages and develops first-line professional staff recruitment team members based in Phoenix, Arizona: monitoring staff activity, ensuring active and effective recruitment efforts are in place, and assessing territory, K-12, community-based organization, and community college needs.

This position frequently analyzes strategic priorities and outcomes in collaboration with their supervisor and advances the goals of the University of Arizona and division of Enrollment Management. The Assistant Director, Recruitment serves as a part of the management team for Arizona Recruitment and is the leadership representative to Phoenix area organizations, schools, colleges, and at community and recruitment events. The Assistant Director, Recruitment is an active contributor to hiring, training, application review, and messaging efforts, ensuring alignment across the team while strengthening the University of Arizona’s statewide presence.

Duties & Responsibilities

Supervision and Reporting (35%):

The Assistant Director, who is based in Phoenix, AZ is responsible for the successful oversight of first-line recruitment staff, based regionally in Phoenix, Arizona and their recruitment activities. Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and supports the continued development of Arizona recruitment staff. Monitors performance and holds staff accountable. Ensures accurate reporting needs are in place and at work for the Phoenix-based recruitment staff. Ensures direct reports are informed on university policies including use of office spaces, emergency protocols, vehicle use, deliveries, mail, business accounting needs and security. Manages team use of Undergraduate Admissions Phoenix office properties and serves as liaison with other building occupants, security, maintenance and office staff.  Regularly reports progress and activities to supervisor.

Strategic Planning and Analysis (30%):

Formulates and implements Maricopa County and Northern Arizona recruitment strategies based on unique demographic analyses, market research, and other admissions data. Plans, implements and evaluates recruitment strategies, programs, communications, and needs throughout the enrollment cycle with supervisor and works collaboratively with Arizona recruitment leadership. Reviews recruitment processes and needs, leading efforts to improve effectiveness and efficiencies across recruitment and in partnership with colleagues in Enrollment Management and other university departments.

Application Review (20%):

Conducts comprehensive application review, evaluating students for admission using established guidelines, training, and professional judgment. Participates in committee review and shared decision-making processes to ensure consistency, integrity, and alignment in admissions decisions. Serves as a lead resource to recruitment staff on application review practices, clearly communicating expectations related to reading volume, evaluation standards, and decision-making consistency, ensuring alignment with institutional goals for accuracy and un-biased comprehensive review. Monitors real-time application review data and utilizes reporting tools
