As a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), you will support a diverse patient population, with many managing chronic respiratory disorders, critical illnesses and related symptoms. In this role, combining your skills with a compassionate attitude and outlook can make a difference in the lives of patients and their families. All the while, you will gain extensive hands-on experience, enhance your skills and explore the numerous professional development resources offered by Cleveland Clinic.

RTs in this department have the ability to create their own schedules, helping promote a healthy-work life balance.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM - 7:30AM, with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.  

  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.  

  • Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans.  

  • Monitor, record and communicate patient condition. 

  • Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications/treatments and perform blood gas puncture and analysis.  

  • Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate's Degree and graduate of a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy Program 

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialing through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Assocation (AHA) 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Previous experience in adult critical care 

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Physical Requirements:

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.

  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:
