Position Overview 
Arts and Sciences Summer Exploration Program seeks instructors to design and teach five-day intensive enrichment courses for middle or high school students in Summer 2025. Candidates from any academic field represented in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University are encouraged to apply. Multiple positions are available for Summer 2025. Arts and Sciences Summer Exploration Program instructors have full responsibility for designing and teaching a course for intellectually curious middle and high school students, developed in collaboration with the Arts and Sciences Summer Exploration Program staff. These courses are designed specifically for middle (grades 7-8) or high school students (grades 9-11 at time of application in Spring 2025) who are ready to tackle more advanced material and assignments. Courses feature both traditional (e.g., lecture, discussion) and experiential (e.g., labs, field trips) learning activities. Active learning strategies are strongly encouraged given the intense program schedule. These courses are not part of any degree program, and have no curriculum requirements, so instructors are encouraged to propose and teach creative courses whose content is appropriate for and interesting to a precollege audience.

Performance Objectives 
Instructors lead class daily Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (including several breaks). After a lunch break, students will return to the classroom 2:00 to 3:45 p.m. where they will work on projects and assignments under the supervision of the instructor. Lunch at Scott dining hall is provided for instructors during the program they are staffed to. Instructors may propose a course as the sole instructor or propose a course as leaders of a teaching team. In the case of a proposed team-taught course, all instructors will share duties in developing and teaching the course and will split the salary based on their proportion of responsibility. Teaching duties and pay will be split equally unless another arrangement is requested. 

Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Bachelor’s degree or terminal degree in relevant field. Candidate must have submitted a course proposal to the Arts and Sciences Summer Exploration Program. For those applying to teach middle school, experience teaching middle or high school.  Background check and FBI fingerprint is required before working with minors. 

Desired: For those applying to teach high school, experience teaching at the secondary/high school level is strongly preferred. Experience teaching in summer precollege academic programs.
