Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is looking for a highly motivated and talented Associate Flight Crew Operations Engineer & Researcher (Level 2) to join the team in Everett, WA.

Position Overview:

In this role, approximately one-third of the time will be dedicated to supporting the Functional Chief Engineer for Human Factors on various projects related to flight deck design and operations for Boeing’s existing fleets. Responsibilities will include analyzing fleet data, implementing procedure changes, and developing design concepts.

We are tasked with ensuring that the today's designs receive word class support and new and future designs are loved by pilots, advance aviation safety, and improve operational efficiency. The flight decks we design today will be used for decades to come and connect the entire globe.

In Flight Deck, we define the look and feel of the interface for the pilots, responsible for that design from the drawing board to the entry into service of an airplane. We are experts in flight operations, with unique knowledge of how flight crews operate our airplanes, what their needs, tasks, and constraints are, and we work closely with pilots from all over the world to deliver industry leading flight decks. The ideal Flight Deck team member possesses a strong passion for aviation and thrives in a collaborative environment with pilots, engineers, and customers who share that enthusiasm.

A flight deck engineer may focus on several key areas, including:

  • Airplane system functions (such as hydraulics, electrical systems, flight controls, etc.)

  • Display formats, menus, and control interfaces

  • Display hardware

  • Flight management systems

  • Instrument panel layouts and crew alerting systems

  • Electronic flight bags

  • Crew personal electronic devices

  • Failure effects and analysis

  • Navigation systems

  • Communication equipment

  • Crew procedures and training

  • Human factors and cognition

  • Ergonomic analysis

Position Responsibilities:

In flight deck you will perform a wide variety of dynamic and challenging work on existing and new flight decks, including:

  • Designing, test, and certifying the look, feel, and operational behavior of the flight deck, from the early conceptual phase, to supporting airplanes after entry into service.

  • Establishing design requirements for changes and enhancements to the flight crew interface on existing or new commercial airplane models, and testing and implementing those enhancements.

  • Supporting product development efforts to identify technologies to increase aviation safety and add value to our products or services.

  • Using an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, develop, verify, and validate requirements.

  • Participating or leading design teams, as well as collaborating with avionics, other engineering groups, customer airline personnel, industry, regulators, and suppliers. 

  • Working closely with a wide variety of pilots disciplines including flight test, technical and procedural, training, customer airline, and regulator pilots.

  • Prototyping cockpit layouts using commercial and company-unique computing tools, and validating design requirements and flight deck design philosophies during test programs using analysis, flight deck simulators, and flight test airplanes. 

  • Ensuring practical application of Boeing Flight Deck and human factors design principles, commonality and integration with other mission objectives.

  • Engineers in this position are expected to independently work assignments, collaborate with teammates, and receive tasking from a lead engineer.

  • Some travel may be required, either domestic or international. Frequent travel to other local Puget Sound sites is required.

Work Authorization:

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Everett, WA.
