Job Description Summary

The Office of Animal Welfare supports the mission of the University of Pennsylvania's animal care program to ensure the highest of standards of animal welfare in research, testing, and teaching. Reporting to the Director of Animal Welfare Programs and Operations, the Assistant Director (AD) of IACUC Administration will have the responsibility of directly overseeing the process for reviewing IACUC protocols, conducting congruency reviews for grants, establishing MOUs with subcontracted entities, and managing the professional and administrative staff within the Office of Animal Welfare. The AD will be responsible for staying informed about and helping to evaluate challenging, high-risk scenarios to proactively offer direction and leadership, as well as to create standard operating procedures to ensure a streamlined and user-friendly protocol review process while ensuring the University's compliance with USDA and OLAW regulations and AAALAC guidance. The AD serves as a senior-level liaison and subject matter expert with research investigators, the IACUC leadership, and other University research support Offices. The AD will assist the Director in the development of business-related metrics and long-term strategic planning initiatives to improve services. Proven organizational, management, and communication skills are key to success in this role. Please note: Will require occasional travel to Kennett Square and King of Prussia campuses for IACUC-related business.
