Job Summary:
Working within a discipline, the Database Administrator will plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of information technology techniques, procedures, and criteria in areas including infrastructure operations. This position will devise new approaches to problems encountered to provide solutions to the customer. The Database Administrator will support a discipline in the performance of complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment. This position will perform work that requires the application of a significant range of fundamental principles in a variety of contexts.

Major Responsibilities:
- Defines operating procedures and maintenance schedules and liaises with customers to assess and develop appropriate information technology solutions
- Analyzes, diagnoses, designs, plans, executes and evaluates work to time, cost, and quality targets
- Perform database software installation /patch/upgrade to development, test, and production servers
- Perform database instance and schema creation, migration, merge, reorganization, archive, restoration
- Perform database instance backup and recovery as necessary
- Perform database instance and schema security setup
- Perform database and data tuning, capacity planning, change management
- Perform database tool and technology evaluation
- Exhibits thorough familiarity with available methods, procedures, tools, equipment, and standards associated with own area of specialization and makes correct choices from alternatives
- Assist program developers with database design issues, use of functions, stored procedures, and packages
- Configure distributed database services (replication and high availability) and maintain, monitor such services
- Provide advice and guidance on technical matters
- Be able to log Service Requests (SRs) with Oracle and Microsoft, apply patches and coordinate with developers, support analysts and users to verify a patch has corrected a problem without negative consequences
- Perform coordination with a geographically disbursed team of Operations DBAs
