JOB PURPOSE: To assist management team with clinical operations to facilitate optimal patient flow and the ability to perform high quality images, within their scope of practice of the defined modality. The Nuclear Medicine Assistant Manager suggests changes in procedures, policies, and quality improvement, as well as coordinates training and development of the Imaging Specialists, keeping them advised of technological changes. The incumbent identifies cost savings and assures that technical operations stay within the targeted budget. In addition to section oversight, the Nuclear Medicine Assistant Manager performs interviews, annual performance appraisals, evaluates students, and may coordinate holiday and call coverage with the manager. The incumbent works independently, performing routine, complex and specialized nuclear medicine procedures and/or PET imaging Work is performed under the general supervision the Radiology Director and/or Manager. The Nuclear Medicine Tech Assistant Manager must be able to use a wide variety of nuclear medicine equipment and computers. The incumbent must be able to provide basic maintenance and repairs, participate in QA/QC and resolve issues related to image processing and the image archiving system (PACS).
- The Nuclear Medicine Tech Assistant Manager demonstrates mastery of all clinical or hospital-level competencies and performs patient assessment within the scope of practice. The incumbent combines clinical staffing assignments with the various team roles and responsibilities.
- Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient service requirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and demonstrate HRO practices.
- Instructs/communicates with patient and/or patients’ family regarding the exam/ procedure to be performed and assesses patients’ ability to tolerate exam.
- Prepares patient or area for exam by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques.
- Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment.
- Maintains medical imaging records in appropriate system and according to department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.
- Assists leadership in maintaining all required policies, procedures, standards, and records for applicable governmental, regulatory, and accrediting organizations by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations of the OSHA, TJC, TDH and ACR.
- Other relevant duties as assigned
- Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology program
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- Minimum 3-5 years clinical experience
- Certification by appropriate body (ARRT or NMTCB)
- CPR certification required.
- Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist through ARRT (RT-N) or NMTCB (CNMT)
