Join Connecticut Children’s, a nationally recognized, 203-bed not-for-profit regional children’s health system, in partnership with Nuvance Health, in the launch of a new pediatric emergency department and observation unit at Norwalk Hospital!  This exciting opportunity will transform pediatric care at Norwalk Hospital, a 366-bed acute care hospital in Southern Connecticut, on beautiful Long Island Sound..

  • Established in 1893, Norwalk Hospital is a not-for-profit community hospital providing Fairfield and Westchester County residents convenient access to exceptional care.
  • Level II Trauma Center; Certified for the Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center program and Certified to provide Emergency Angioplasty.
  • Newly renovated and dedicated, eight-bed pediatric emergency care area and observation unit.
  • 12 hour per day, 365 PEM on-site coverage with overnight pediatric physician assistant support of observation patients.
  • Faculty will join the Division of Emergency Medicine at Connecticut Children’s, composed of 19 PEM physicians, 1 pediatrician and 20 advanced practice providers.
  • Our Critical Care Transport Team transports high-risk neonatal and pediatric patients to and from Connecticut Children’s 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Connecticut Children’s Specialty Group, Inc., a subsidiary of Connecticut Children’s is a 300+ physician, multi-specialty medical and surgical pediatric group.
  • Candidates for this unique physician opportunity must be BC/BE in pediatric emergency medicine.

Astride a hill with a commanding view of Long Island Sound, Norwalk Hospital serves a varied and attractive region of Southern Connecticut. The hospital is just minutes from beautiful places to hike, swim, sail or walk along the beach.  Connecticut Magazine recently named South Norwalk as the “hottest” nightspot between Boston and New York City, with a plethora of theater groups and restaurants to choose from.  New York City is easily accessible by car or train.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Assess, evaluate, diagnose and initially treat pediatric patients who present in the ED with any symptom, illness, injury or condition and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries; stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and to assess all patients to determine if additional care is necessary. 

Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results and perform physical examinations.

Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments and community agencies and providers as necessary.

Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model. 

Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.

Participate in peer review, development and consultation. 

Participate in special programs and services as assigned.

Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.

Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children’s STANDARDS.

Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No direct reports but oversees Fellows, Residents, Medical Students and Advanced Practice Providers (APRNs & PAs).
 

EDUCATION  and/or EXPERIENCE  REQUIRED

Education Required: MD, MD/PhD, DO degree or equivalent with attainment of Pediatric Emergency Medicine board eligibility/certification.

Experience Required: Previous pediatric emergency department experience required.

LICENSE  and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine 
Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
Current Federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration
Current State of Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration
