What You Will Contribute To Altos

The Cell Modeling Research Associate will work within the Cell Models and Cell Engineering Hub and report to the Hub Manager. The Cell Models and Cell Engineering Hub broadly supports the creation and implementation of novel cell-based models required for larger R&D initiatives at Altos Labs San Diego Institute. The Cell Modeling Research Associate will be actively involved in Hub activities with a strong focus on 2D/3D cell culture techniques and cell line editing/engineering activities with primary cell, stem cell, and immortalized cell populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports hub operations, including maintenance/upkeep of equipment, management of waste streams, inventory and stocking of critical reagents, supplies, and materials, and following cell modeling and cell engineering standard operating procedures.
  • Performs 2D and 3D cell culture functions with a reasonable degree of independence after an initial training period.
  • Performs quality control testing and characterization assays on cell lines and critical reagents.
  • Assists the Hub Manager with the design and creation of novel vectors for the implementation of cell modeling and cell engineering projects, initiatives, and services.
  • Works with the Hub Manager and fellow team members to achieve department goals and meet project milestones.
  • Assists with the management of cell lines and materials/reagent inventories, including updating and maintaining hard copy and digital records, entering new materials in inventory and databasing tools, and fulfilling distribution requests.
  • Supports training and orientation functions provided by the Hub.
  • Maintains accurate and complete electronic notebook records.
  • Records, analyzes, and presents results and data.
  • Assists with problem solving and assay development to improve operational workflows.
  • Works collaboratively across departments and operational levels.
  • Attends and presents at team and larger group meetings.
  • Effectively communicates using digital platforms and through in person interactions.
  • Performs repetitive and standardized laboratory tasks with a high degree of reproducibility.

Who You Are

We are seeking applicants who possess the following qualifications. Locally based candidates are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree and at least 1 year of experience in a cell modeling research environment.
  • Experience performing aseptic 2D/3D mammalian cell culture. 
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with molecular cloning and viral vectors.
  • Strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and knowledge of basic laboratory procedures to advance projects under shifting priorities and timelines.
  • Capable of working collaboratively, with a diverse team, and in a fast paced environment. 
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in a cell modeling research environment.
  • Experienced and comfortable working with a variety of cell types including primary cell, stem cell, and immortalized cell populations.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with cell line engineering.

Salary Range: 80,750 - 109,250
