The key purpose of the Trade Instructor - Metal Fabrication role is to deliver and evaluate a range of trade training programs for inmates, with a focus on assisting inmates in integrating successfully into the community and gaining post-release employment.
As a Trade Instructor in the Industries & Trades team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Supervising, coaching, training, instructing, and working with staff (inmates experience is highly desirable) to develop their work skills. Ideally, in a trade environment.
- Creating and maintaining a safe working environment for staff (inmates' experience highly desirable) and visitors to comply with Work Health & Safety legislation.
- Managing budget and resources efficiently and effectively to achieve planned outcomes.
- Ensuring quality standards of production, including completing Instruction Test Plans (ITPs).
- Delivering and understanding regulations or specific work requirements relevant to the trade area.
- Delivering and understanding of Occupational Health & Safety requirements and their application within the context of a workshop and/or industry environment.
- Contributing to teamwork by working collaboratively with others to achieve the goals and objectives of the Centre.
- Delivering the highest level of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:
- Certificate III or IV in Engineering – Fabrication or similar
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (or willingness to obtain within the first year)
- Certificate III Correctional Practice (or willingness to obtain within the first year)
- Minimum 2- 5 years’ experience in metal fabrication or similar
- Strong understanding of WHS practices and tool/equipment safety protocols
- Ability to supervise and train adults in a secure environment
