Orthopaedic Associates of Manhasset has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Physician Assistant. The Physician Assistant will provide support to a busy sports medicine surgeon in both the clinic and OR. The physicians provide expertise in the full spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries including sports medicine, minimally invasive orthopedic spine surgery, total joint replacement, foot/ankle, hand/upper extremity, trauma, and pain management. OAM also offers onsite digital imaging and state-of-the-art physical therapy and MRI.

Highlights:

• Performs and documents history and physicals of pre-operative patients. Prepares documentation for consent on admit
• Assists with post-operative checks, including wound evaluations and dressing changes
• Performs in-office procedures such as cast/splint placements and removals, suture removal and wound care, staple removals, and managing infection
• Collects and/or prepares samples, such as wound cultures or joint fluid from patients for testing
• Administers medications, orally or by subcutaneous injection when indicated
• Renews medications, as needed for patients in office, phone, or electronically
• Orders X-rays, laboratory tests, physical therapy renewals, CT/MRI and other diagnostic tests as needed
• Makes post-operative calls to patients at home to check on status when indicated
• Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens and patient teaching
• First assists in all surgeries
• Assures all films, X-rays, MRIs, etc. are up on monitors prior to surgeries
• Provides quality in-patient care including rounds, progress notes, dressing changes, and follows lab results
• Handles post-op orders for all cases covered
• Coordinates discharge of patient including clinical resume and all other required documentation
• Participates in on-call coverage (one weekend per month)
• Provides some coverage of football games (after hours)
