About the role
Labcorp is hiring an Executive Director, Early Development/Science Sourcing. This Executive Director level role is responsible for leading and setting the strategic direction for sourcing for Early Development (Research Models and Biospecimen categories) within the Sourcing & Procurement organization.
- The Executive Director for the Research Models and Biospecimen Category will oversee an annual spend of over $200M covering 500k biospecimens across multiple sub-categories. This role will provide supply and sourcing leadership to ensure adequate supply as well as identify new sources of supply globally to support current and future business needs. This role will also drive the identification, development, and management of new supplier relationships globally to ensure Labcorp has a multi-source model to support the Research Models and Biospecimen category. This role will require a deep understanding of the commercial dynamics of the biopharma client environment with a view to developing financially robust sourcing solutions that will position Labcorp competitively in the marketplace. This individual will also manage a team of 5-7 sourcing professionals located globally across the US, EU, and Asia.
- Assist AWVS (Animal Welfare and Veterinary Services) with contract negotiations, supplier audits, animal quality issues, animal transport logistics, and internal procurement processes.
- Additionally, this role actively collaborates with Labcorp’s Science and Technology department and subject matter experts to contribute to strategic initiatives for diagnostics testing, especially in infectious disease and microbiome areas. Provides guidance, assessment and feedback regarding new diagnostic approaches, from conceptualization through possible regulatory submission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for developing, communicating, and leading execution of Early Development Sourcing strategy. Drives the formulation and delivery of strategies to accomplish key priorities and advance the business mission.
- Leadership of 5+ direct reports.
- Lead supplier management by partnering with AWVS (Animal Welfare and Veterinary Services) in the assessment of animal suppliers and transporters of laboratory animals, suppliers of foodstuffs, bedding and other relevant supplies, and external diagnostic laboratories, to ensure they meet appropriate health, welfare and quality standards.
- Perform animal supplier audits, audit reports, animal supply chain vendor management in collaboration with AWVS.
- Partner with scientific subject matter experts in Early Development on the use of biospecimens and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in a dynamic regulatory environment.
- Play an active role in Business Advisory Team meetings for one or more scientific areas.
- Actively invest in building and developing talent (both within and outside the organization of responsibility), supporting career planning, engagement, and performance management to ensure value add to the business and to foster team engagement, motivation, and retention.
- Identify and monitor market, financial and business trends, metrics and intelligence within the functional area and influence data driven decisions.
REQUIREMENTS
- 12+ years of (industry-related) operational experience, with at least 5 of those years in a Sr. Leadership or Director-level role, leading and managing cross-functional teams/projects.
- Strategic level leadership experience with the ability to convey vision, strategy, priorities, and actions to front-line team members and executive leaders for time sensitive and complex initiatives. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to develop & deliver business impacts related to the company strategy and solve business problems.
- Financial and business acumen to include both developing business cases (including assessing impact, risk, & developing action plans) with financial analysis (for both OpEx and capital projects) and management of department-level P&L responsibilities.
- Proficiency with supply chain operations principles, terminology, and regulations. Advanced understanding of industry standards/techniques, regulatory requirements, and functional area applications.
- Ability to lead change and comfortable handling risk and ambiguity.
- Ability to build relationships quickly based on trust, transparency and integrity. High emotional intelligence.
