Job Description
The Product Line Manager (PLM) is accountable for the growth and success of one or more Verisk Marketing Solutions (VMS) Product Lines. The Product Line Manager will operate as the “CEO of the Product Line,” leading and directing cross-functional activities across the organization to drive the ongoing success of the product line for our current customers (delivery, value achievement, and retention), as well as the growth and adoption of the product line by new customers (sales). The Product Line Manager owns the strategy and long-term vision for the product line, communicating internally and externally to create alignment and ensure the success of our business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Customer / Prospect Relationships & Market Facing Activities.
Operate as the face of the product line externally, evangelizing and promoting the value of the product. Through direct customer, prospect, and partner interactions, the SPM will directly influence customer success and sales while also gathering feedback to inform future product development.
Help to accelerate sales deals by building direct relationships with key accounts. Act as the pre-sales SME for high value, strategic opportunities, providing expertise and guidance.
Participate as a speaker and thought leader at conferences and events, directly building market awareness for the product line.
Go-to-Market Positioning, Sales Strategy, and Sales Execution.
Develop the go-to-market positioning for the product line and ensure that we are constantly evolving our positioning based on the latest market conditions and internal changes.
Enable our teams to effectively execute this positioning in the market.
Collaborate closely with sales leadership to define and execute a sales strategy that will achieve the product line’s growth and retention targets.
Take on accountability for steering appropriate pricing and cost vs. value equation to ensure profitability and competitive position in the market.
Product Development Roadmap Planning & Execution.
Build and maintain an evolving product development roadmap. Prioritize all product roadmap initiatives for the product line, managing cost vs. value trade off decisions to ensure we allocate our technical development resources towards the highest impact initiatives for the business.
Utilize input from customers, market research, executive leadership and internal experts to make good decisions and build consensus for the product line’s long-term development strategy.
Work closely with technical leaders and development teams to drive the execution of the roadmap and deliver on target release dates.
Product Delivery & Operations.
Collaborate with internal teams to define and improve the process by which we deliver the product line to our customers, including implementation, support, and customer success.
Operate as the ultimate escalation point and decision maker for issues and errors related to the delivery of the product, or for customers and prospects experiencing challenges achieving the standard value proposition of the product line.
Quarterly Business Reviews With Leadership.
Conduct regular business reviews for the product line with the Executive Leadership team, providing visibility into key metrics and progress towards our business objectives, and soliciting input from leadership to make consensus-based decisions about the product line.
Outcomes of Success
Quantifiable achievement of Revenue, New Sales, Retention, and Profitability targets for the product line
Deliver the Go-to-Market Plan for the Product Line, coordinating sales & marketing activities to drive sales of the product.
Deliver the Technical Roadmap for the Product Line. Delivering the launch of new products & features for the product line, executed in alignment with the go-to-market roadmap activities.
You are considered internally to be the expert not only on how the product works, but also on how to effectively position and explain the product externally in a way that influences customers and prospects and drives buying decisions
