Principal Research Associate, Analytical Development

The Role:

Moderna is seeking a motivated Principal Research Associate with a strong background in Analytical Chemistry. Experience with the analysis of biologics and small molecule therapeutics is preferred. This individual will primarily work with analytical and process teams on developmental stability and related studies for early to late phase mRNA-Lipid Nanoparticles (LNPs) based vaccines and pharmaceuticals. The responsibilities will include participating in study designs, authoring protocols, reports, and conducting data mining/trending and statistical analysis generated with analytical methods for mRNA drug substance and lipid nanoparticle drug products, as well as for lipids and raw materials.  The individual is expected to work in a highly collaborative, cross functional team environment, and interface with different departments and technical and strategy teams.  The candidate must thrive in a fast-paced environment with high expectations. This role will be located at the Moderna Technology Center in Norwood, MA.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

• Participate in designing and implement stability, forced degradation and other relevant studies based on practical understanding of ICH stability guidelines

• Develop and draft stability study plans and protocols for early to late phase mRNA-LNP vaccine and therapeutics

• Work on compilation of stability data for analysis; perform data trending; draft stability protocols, reports, and other relevant documents

• Collaborate with the CMC Statistics group on the analysis and reporting of stability study results

• Participate in data analysis and technical report writing

• Support regulatory submission authoring

• Work closely with Analytical Program Leads, other scientists in Analytical and Technical Development as well as cross-functional teams

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

• MS with at least 2 years or BS with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience in analytical chemistry.

• BS/MS in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field.

• Knowledge of chromatographic separation, biophysical characterization, and spectrophotometric techniques, equipment platforms (e.g. Thermo, Waters, Agilent) and data processing software (e.g. Chromeleon, ChemStation, Empower).

• At least 3 years of demonstrated hands-on experience with biologics or small molecule therapeutics

• (Preferred) Experience with stability and forced degradation studies

• (Preferred) Understanding of stability indicating properties and analytical assays for biologics and/or small molecule therapeutics

• Organization and attention to detail; ability to participate in multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

• Strong interpersonal skills with an eagerness to work with and support colleagues in other departments
