Job Summary
The Financial Accounting Group is looking to hire a Senior Staff Accountant. The individual will execute job responsibilities requiring an experienced professional with a strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices. This includes interpreting accounting data, assessing reports, and recommending action to be taken. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Participate in the monthly close process by generating various journal entries, preparing required reconciliations, and analytically reviewing specific general ledger accounts for accuracy and proper valuation.
- Lead/support various Audit activities (PwC, Internal Audit, DCAA) including assigning requests to other staff, preparing and or reviewing supporting documentation/schedules, tracking of audit deliverables and issues, management reviews and status
- Research accounting guidance, Laboratory policy and other guidance to model, document and implement new accounting practices/activities
- Interpret Laboratory policy, Federal regulations and other guidance to determine allowability and allocability of costs to the Lab’s Prime contract and present recommendations to management Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements for internal
- management, MIT campus and external customers, as needed. Includes Tax and Government reporting Lead Accounting’s process improvement initiatives, including improvements to internal documentation & procedures, process standardization, automation, quarter/year-end close and internal control improvements
- Support the implementation/upgrade of financial systems
- Support the Manager of Accounting and other responsibilities as needed
Requirements
- B.S./B.B.A. degree in Accounting/Finance, or related field required. MS/MBA preferred.
- Minimum of eight years’ experience in Accounting or related discipline
- Full cycle month end close experience in ERP software solutions, SAP Preferred
- A solid understanding of financial and government processes with strong analytical skills
- Proficiency with computer-based financial management tools is required Experience developing and implementing process improvements is required Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills is required Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines Microsoft Office Products proficiency required
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP system required
- Experience with Department of Defense contracts or regulations (OMB, FAR, DFARs) is preferred Experience with DCAA and external audits is preferred
