About Huawei Finland R&D

With 28 sites across Europe and over 2000 researchers, Huawei’s European Research Institute (ERI) oversees fundamental and applied technology research, academic research cooperation projects, and strategic technical planning across our network of European R&D facilities. This position will lead the Tampere Camera Lab hardware team consisting of about 15 specialists. The team has world class capabilities in camera module technologies like optics, actuators, camera module mechanics and camera system including state of the art laboratory facilities for optics and camera module measurements. The focus is in camera technology innovations for Huawei smartphones with 2+ years’ timeframe and develop them from idea to a functioning prototype. The challenge is to come up with new ideas to further enhance the imaging performance of Huawei smartphones imaging capabilities both in photography and machine vision areas.

Your leadership will give direction and priorities to the team. You will form the direction through your excellent knowledge on camera technologies and smartphone imaging competitive situation, continuous dialogue between Huawei teams in Europe and China and innovations together with the team members.

Main Responsibilities:

• Day to day work leading the team towards agreed goals

• Technical research and development of camera prototypes for mobile phones

• Innovating new technologies and solutions and developing prototypes of new concepts. Driving successful integration of developed prototypes into products to achieve competitive advantage in the market

• Provide industry insight and analysis of low-level technologies in the domain

• Support planning of future technology development and road-map

• Cooperate with Huawei headquarter to build camera competitiveness to achieve industry-leading camera performance

Qualifications and Requirements:

• MSc or higher education level in suitable engineering domain

• Knowledge in photography camera system overall: Optics, image sensor, actuators, electrical hardware and understanding of inter-dependencies between them

• Track record in camera hardware development and team leading, minimum 10 years of relevant working experience

• Understanding of novel vision systems outside photography: Depth, spectral, thermal imaging

• Basic knowledge of image processing

• Project management experience in multicultural environment

• Experience of collaborating with suppliers: Communication, work setup, defining project targets and leading the discussion towards those

• Basic knowledge of commercial contracts and related legal questions

• Supply chain and cost understanding

• Mobile phone industry knowledge and strategic understanding. Preferably experience of successfully introducing new camera technologies in mobile phones. Understanding competitive situation in smartphone camera technologies.

Skills:

• Languages: Full professional proficiency in English. Finnish and Chinese can be an advantage.

• Standard IT skills: Office tools, communication tools, presentation tools

• Management skills: Team leadership, target setting and performance management of team members. Interpersonal and leadership skills to bring out the best of team members.
