SMUD is seeking a dedicated and experienced Supervisor of Threat Management and Corporate Security Operations to lead our comprehensive security initiatives and ensure the safety of our employees and customers. This pivotal leadership role offers the opportunity to design, implement, and refine security protocols in collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, ultimately fostering a proactive security culture within our organization. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in threat assessment, crisis management, and the management of security programs, coupled with strong leadership and communication skills necessary to navigate the complex landscape of corporate security.

Purpose

The Supervisor of Threat Management and Corporate Security Operations is responsible for overseeing and managing the Threat Management program to ensure the protection of SMUD employees and customers and includes direct supervision of the Threat Assessment Team. 

Nature and Scope

Reporting to the Manager of Security Operations, this supervisor provides day-to-day oversight of assigned personnel, including organizing, training, and evaluating personnel while leading investigations into potential threat concerns. Provides guidance to Security Operations Supervisors on threat-related matters, as needed. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Security Policy Development: Assists in designing, implementing and refining SMUD’s security policies and training programs, with a focus on threat management, for Asset Protection Officers. Evaluates security trends and ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Strategic Security Planning: Integrates Security Department goals with SMUD priorities through short- and long-term planning. Serves as an internal consultant to assess threat security needs and collaborates with law enforcement agencies.
  • Staff Supervision: Provides day-to-day oversight of assigned staff, including organizing, training and evaluating personnel.
  • Threat Assessment Management: Manages threat assessments and investigations, ensuring comprehensive evaluation and resolution, while managing workplace violence prevention initiatives in compliance with California SB 533.
  • Budget Management: Assists in budget development and administration by monitoring expenditures and reconciling anomalies, ensuring alignment with fiscal objectives.
  • Administrative Support: Maintains security training records, prepares regulatory reports, tracks equipment deficiencies, and assists in operational readiness of security and emergency equipment.
  • Project Coordination: Supports planning and research for departmental threat projects, ensuring alignment with task objectives and schedules outlined in project plans.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensures adherence to threat-related laws, prepares detailed reports on assessments and investigations, and presents findings to senior management.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborates with internal units and external stakeholders to enhance threat response and implement effective security measures across SMUD.
  • Training Program Development: Designs and implements training programs for security personnel focused on threat assessment and incident response, fostering a proactive security culture.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitors emerging threats, recommends process improvements based on best practices and incident assessment, and stays updated on industry advancements.
  • Contract Management: Manages threat-related contracts, ensuring vendor compliance with obligations and program effectiveness, while recommending necessary modifications.
  • Program Management: Oversees threat initiative management to ensure timely completion of projects and alignment with SMUD’s strategic goals.
  • Performs other related duties as needed; schedules, hours and locations may fluctuate based on business needs.

Required Experience Qualifications

  • Five (5+) or more years of progressively responsible relevant work experience, including two (2+) or more years of lead/supervisory experience, in the planning and management of internal security programs, threat assessment programs and security/threat investigations.
