The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Engineer II, Manufacturing to work out of our Irvine, CA location supporting our Electro-physiology (EP) business. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

What You'll Work On:

• Front line engineer supporting multiple product lines and operations team
• Manage projects which include new production equipment, process improvements and cost reductions while supporting new product introductions.  Provide guidance to other engineers and technicians. 
• Additional responsibilities include:
  • Supporting overall production line output, including and not limited to preventing/addressing line down concerns, production scrap with RCA and corrective actions, equipment related issues, material supply concerns, and other business interruptions.
  • Coordinate the design, procurement, build and debug of tooling, machinery and test equipment.
  • Improve product quality, labor efficiency, and throughput through the use of Lean manufacturing concepts
  • Conduct Process FMEAs and Process Validations

  • Design and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures in order to meet daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality
  • Evaluation of production equipment
  • Production support and process validation
  • Interface with vendors for incoming components, equipment and tools
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing process and equipment
  • Utilize tools like Gage R&R, Cp, Cpk, and SPC to improve processes
  • Understand manufacturing concepts like Value Stream mapping, 5S and Visual Workplace to improve quality, labor efficiency, and throughput.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors of Science degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field or equivalent
• 3+ years of relevant engineering experience. Prior manufacturing engineering experience is required.
• Experience in highly regulated field, preferably medical device manufacturing.
• Understanding and use of process monitoring and statistical analysis tools.
• Proficiency in medical device scrap dissections, preferably catheters.
• Experience supporting manufacturing equipment, including equipment specifications and IQs. Preferred knowledge of Equipment reliability, PM, Calibration.
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and project management skills.
• Demonstrated leadership capability in team settings.
• Ability to work within a team and independently in a fast-paced, changing environment.
