Job Summary:

A Phlebotomist is a technical/paraprofessional who works in the medical field and specializes in blood draws. These paraprofessionals assist healthcare providers in treating patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Checks patient identification and test requisitions, and reports discrepancies.

  • Helps patients or donors relax by explaining their work and sampling procedures.

  • Finds the best vein for venipuncture and the correct needle size and location for each draw.

  • Obtains blood samples through venipunctures and finger sticks.

  • Sanitizes the lab area and supplies, such as needles, gloves, and specimen containers.

  • Labels and stores samples and prepares them for laboratory testing.

  • Tracks collected blood to the lab and delivers samples to other departments for analysis.

  • Maintains specimen integrity by following aseptic techniques, department procedures, and isolation procedures.

  • Accurately rooms patients, obtains & records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality, written and verbal.

  • Communicates effectively and in an attentive manner with every patient encounter.

  • Verifies patient’s understanding of the purpose of the visit.

  • Provides patient care in a safe, comfortable, and private environment.

  • Cleans exam rooms and other patient care areas between each patient

  • Maintains work areas, exam rooms, supplies, equipment, medications, and immunizations.

  • Documents work processes as required.

  • Ensures mistakes or inconsistencies in medical records are corrected to reduce/eliminate errors.

  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Denver, CO.
