Job Summary:
A Phlebotomist is a technical/paraprofessional who works in the medical field and specializes in blood draws. These paraprofessionals assist healthcare providers in treating patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Checks patient identification and test requisitions, and reports discrepancies.
Helps patients or donors relax by explaining their work and sampling procedures.
Finds the best vein for venipuncture and the correct needle size and location for each draw.
Obtains blood samples through venipunctures and finger sticks.
Sanitizes the lab area and supplies, such as needles, gloves, and specimen containers.
Labels and stores samples and prepares them for laboratory testing.
Tracks collected blood to the lab and delivers samples to other departments for analysis.
Maintains specimen integrity by following aseptic techniques, department procedures, and isolation procedures.
Accurately rooms patients, obtains & records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care.
Maintains patient confidentiality, written and verbal.
Communicates effectively and in an attentive manner with every patient encounter.
Verifies patient’s understanding of the purpose of the visit.
Provides patient care in a safe, comfortable, and private environment.
Cleans exam rooms and other patient care areas between each patient
Maintains work areas, exam rooms, supplies, equipment, medications, and immunizations.
Documents work processes as required.
Ensures mistakes or inconsistencies in medical records are corrected to reduce/eliminate errors.
Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Work Location:
Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Denver, CO.
