Primary Purpose:
The Nacogdoches ISD is seeking a dedicated, disciplined, and visionary leader to serve as a Military Science Instructor for our Army National Defense Cadet Corps (NDCC) program. The instructor will deliver leadership and citizenship development education to high school cadets in grades 9-12. This position is responsible for creating a structured classroom environment that fosters academic excellence, character building, physical fitness, and civic responsibility in alignment with Texas State standards and U.S. Army Cadet Command regulations.
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned preferred
Training as required by JROTC
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of subject assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
At least one-year student teaching or approved alternative certification program internship preferred
Former Military experience required
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Delivery
- Teach the approved U.S. Army JROTC/NDCC curriculum covering leadership theory, military history, citizenship, and health/wellness.
- Develop daily lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and meet Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) requirements.
- Maintain a highly structured, safe, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning and mutual respect.
Program Administration & Operations
- Manage accountability and security for all government property, uniforms, training aids, and equipment.
- Oversee program compliance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) PEIMS reporting and U.S. Army Cadet Command directives.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and promotion tracks.
Co-Curricular & Extracurricular Activities
- Plan, organize, and supervise extracurricular cadet teams, including Drill Team, Color Guard, Raiders, and Marksmanship.
- Coordinate cadet participation in community service projects, local parades, and regional competitions.
- Chaperone and lead students during mandatory summer leadership camps (JCLC) or weekend events.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Military & Certification Standards
- Certification: Must be currently certified as a JROTC Instructor by the U.S. Army Cadet Command (USACC) or possess an approved eligibility letter.
- Service History: Retired or Honorably Discharged U.S. Army personnel (Officer or Non-Commissioned Officer).
- Physical Standards: Must continuously meet U.S. Army height, weight, and grooming standards as outlined in CCR 145-2.
Education & State Licensing
- Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred (required for Senior Instructor roles).
- Texas Licensure: Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Texas Teaching Certificate or JROTC Permit issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
- Background Check: Must clear a comprehensive fingerprinting and criminal background check, including Texas Childcare clearance guidelines.
