Human Resources Generalist

SUMMARY:

Ability to perform the following general administrative human resources duties along with all other duties as requested by the Director of Human Resources in a confidential and professional manner while in support of AWG’s overall mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The individual must have the ability to perform the responsibilities listed below. The list is not all inclusive of duties that may be requested by the department head or a member of upper management but are intended for an understanding of the purpose of the position. It is the responsibility of everyone at AWG to provide ultimate customer service to our members to support their efforts in increasing same store sales and profits.

  • Coordinate the recruiting, interviewing, and selection of new hires.
  • Plan and conduct the classroom portion of new employee orientation.
  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll including hires/terms, allowances, annual reviews, and non-union pay changes.
  • Maintain a calendar of employee events throughout the year (lunch and learns, wellness screenings, open enrollment, etc.). 
  • Ensure confidentiality while executing the duties of the position.
  • Develop and maintain files for Union and non-Union employees, utilize third-party assistance as needed.
  • Submit vouchers for department expenses as received for timely payment.
  • Audit and route the Union and Central States bill for timely payment.
  • Serve as local contact for non-union benefits administration including COBRA.
  • Manage the employee birthday celebrations and service award programs for the Division.
  • Modify as needed the documented work processes.
  • Coordinate and present annual enrollment meetings for benefits.
  •  Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: HR degree or equivalent; or one to two years in Human Resources related experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to basic mathematical work in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.  Ability to compute salary increase percentages and 401k percentages of salary for contributions. 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to remain calm and unattached to emotional situations.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to keep information confidential.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
