About the role

Description

NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Kanbar Undergraduate Department of Film & Television is searching for one full-time Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Screenwriting to begin in September 2025.

Qualifications

Candidates should have an on-going career and significant credits as a screenwriter of produced narrative films, episodic television and/or streaming

platforms. While teaching experience at the university level is preferred, the

demonstrable capacity to translate one’s professional experience into dynamic, craft-based teaching is also acceptable. Evidence of artistic achievement is also required. In addition to a significant body of professional creative work, the candidate will be prepared to participate fully in the program as well as in other functions of the University, as required.  


Duties include teaching 5 courses per year, mentoring undergraduate students, and participating in departmental and/or school-wide committees and events. Ongoing professional work is encouraged and expected. Salary, to be negotiated, includes an excellent benefits package.

Three confidential letters of recommendation are also required, at least one of which should be from an academic (not industry) recommender. Candidates may be asked to submit a creative reel. 

 

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $115,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
