Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

• Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant works independently while performing general facility/custodial services at the Lancaster County Central Park, and D.F. Buchmiller County Park.

• The Maintenance Assistant cleans and maintains the general appearance and cleanliness of park facilities.

• This position requires knowledge of basic janitorial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning surfaces and safe, effective use of cleaning agents and solvents. Knowledge of leaf blowers, floor scrubbers, pressure washers, and basic janitorial equipment is a requirement of this position in order to safely and effectively clean various indoor and outdoor facilities.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

• This person will report to the Maintenance Supervisor, position #00500290, at the Park location.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Performs a variety of janitorial tasks and duties such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and general cleaning of customer facing and park operations facilities

• Monitor and report repair and preventive maintenance needs of restrooms and facilities to the Maintenance Supervisor

• Inspect public-facing facilities after rentals for excessive messes or damage and report to the Maintenance Supervisor as needed

• Replenish restroom supplies as needed

• Maintain an accurate inventory of cleaning supplies, and report any needs to the Maintenance Supervisor

• Ability to comprehend daily facility schedule, and prioritize customer/facility needs

• Assist in loading and hauling trash and recyclables

• Safely operate a pickup truck

• Ability to follow County and Departmental Policies and Procedures

• Perform all other duties as assigned

OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES

• Assist with facility needs, as directed

• Operate hand and power tools including leaf blower, weed eater, pressure washer, floor scrubber etc. to clean various indoor and outdoor facility types.

• With assistance from the seasonal trash collector, remove trash from Park Operations Facilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

• High school diploma or GED required

• Previous janitorial/custodial experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to follow oral and written instruction

• Ability to work well with minimum supervision

• Ability to work well alone or with others

• Computer skills (email, Workday, work order system)

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES

• Must have and maintain a valid PA Driver's License with an acceptable driving record in accordance with County policy and submit to driving record background check

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening

  REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Ability to lift 50 pounds to waist height, 30 pounds to shoulder height, and 25 pounds above the head

• Ability to use a 10' step ladder

• Must be able to traverse uneven terrain

• Ability to perform strenuous tasks over extended periods of time

• Ability to stoop, bend from the waist and reach overhead frequently and for extended periods of time

• Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather

• This position requires wearing a supplied t-shirt with an FM logo during working hours

• This position requires the use of closed toe and closed back shoes that support the ankle
