Role Description

We’re looking for a Process Development Technician to join a new manufacturing process team.  This team is responsible for developing and validating processes used to manufacture the iron electrodes used in Form Energy’s commercial product. This role is embedded directly in the process engineering team and will support various process engineering efforts. In this role, you will participate in experiments and production trials at pilot scale and work to develop and improve novel electrode manufacturing techniques. You’ll work closely with equipment design engineers, operations, and facilities teams.

This opportunity is based out of the Greater Pittsburgh Area at Form Energy's Eighty Four, PA facility.

What you'll do:

This Process Development Technician will partner with the anode mechanical engineering team to help establish the first full scale anode process with a focus on safety and process capability:

  • Establish processes that are safely capable of producing full scale battery electrodes

  • Document and improve the process steps required to deliver electrodes capable of use in battery assembly and testing

  • Facilitate the transfer of knowledge and new processes from the Process Engineering Team to the Operations team through in-depth training and on-the-floor operations support

  • Offer continual support to the Operations team to support production problems and improvements

  • Conduct engineering trials and data collection with careful attention to to detail

  • Use shop tools ( e.g., hammers, screwdrivers, power tools, etc) to build and assemble prototypes and one-offs as specified by engineers

  • Facilitate installation and assembly of new equipment

  • Work with a diversity of teams inside and outside the company to achieve overall manufacturing success

  • Be a champion for safety in the development of new equipment and processes

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of experience as a technician or hands-on role, ideally 2-3 years in a startup environment

  • Extremely hands on and experienced with fabricating simple fixtures and assemblies and running medium to large equipment

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with a positive and get-it-done attitude

  • Experience designing safe processes involving hazardous locations containing combustible dust, gasses, and high temperatures

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Experience executing manufacturing trials
