The Unilever Foods category is on a journey as we look to develop our business and drive growth. Understanding our business and providing continual insights that drive action and growth for our categories and brand is the key focus of Consumer and Market Insights.  

In our Condiments business (Mayonnaise and other condiments like Mustard) we focus on three key brands – Hellmann’s, Sir Kensington’s and Maille – and provide strategic understanding of the consumer, insights to impact growth at our customers and actions to propel growth for these brands in their categories and new opportunities space. We leverage syndicated and custom research to achieve these goals.

In addition, digital has changed the way we do everything. Now we intend to be at the front of the digital revolution.  At the heart of this we have developed capabilities that blend consumer data from multiple sources and are instrumental in the creation of our strategy and use of our strategic first-party data assets to drive precision marketing.

We are looking for someone who has passion for consumer insight and analytics with the ability to turn data into meaningful insights that help shape business decisions.  Someone who can spot opportunities, understand what will really address consumer pain points and drive category growth and help bring those ideas to life through a variety of sources. 

Who You Are & What You’ll Do

The Assistant Manager, Consumer & Market Insights US Condiments will be part of the North America Foods Consumer Market Insights team, and will be responsible for analyzing a wide range of data to help inform marketing, brand and business strategies. They will translate internal briefs into analytical projects to help grow our brands and categories. They will be comfortable using a wide range of research tools and methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative. They are familiar with both digital data such as social and search right through to traditional business data such as market share, penetration and brand equity (ie Nielsen, Circana and Numerator). The individual will be responsible for providing quantitative and qualitative analysis and insight, supporting mainly the Condiments business team in the US, but also providing insight across the Foods Business in North America as well. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to align all research projects to the strategic priorities of the US Condiments team
  • Conduct analyses using in-house analytics tools, and be comfortable analyzing a range of social and business data (ie Meltwater) as well as traditional business data (e.g. Circana, NPD, Numerator, Kantar), deriving insights and connecting the dots
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative analysis and insight to inform business strategy, marketing and brand strategies, digital marketing content and strategy, communications and new product development
  • Leverage a range of data sources and custom research to support customer and category growth stories, and support knowledge based selling
  • Translate internal briefs and questions into analytical projects (includes refining the initial ask and asking the ‘right questions’, working through potential hypotheses and storyboarding the output)
  • Lead research projects from brief creation, through supplier selection, study design, interpreting results and providing actionable recommendations to the cross-functional team
  • Synthesize data and analysis into impactful, action-orientated reports for internal stakeholders and communicate key findings and insight to senior stakeholders and peers
  • Seek out ways to leverage AI in new and experimental ways to improve our tools, processes and consumer understanding
  • Build and test queries on in-house social and search data tools; Build and maintain dashboards for internal customers using internal visualization tools

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Undergraduate degree required. Advanced degree in Marketing, Marketing Research, Analytics, or similar field preferred.
  • Demonstrated high performance, 1-3 years of experience in relevant work experience (i.e. analytical role and providing insights and recommendations based on analysis)
  • The ideal candidate has experience in traditional market research skills (quantitative/qualitative), or analytic skills with traditional market research data
  • Good analytical thinking and communication skills to present clearly, simplify complex topics and influence decision-making
