About the role

The Commercial Credit Officer (CCO) is a credit orientated role as well as a personnel management and leadership role. Under the direction and review of the Senior Commercial Credit Officer (SCCO), you will play a pivotal role in assessing and managing credit risk for both a general C&I team as well as Specialized Lending (Asset Based Lending, Security Alarm, and Dealer Finance). The role involves evaluating creditworthiness, overseeing portfolio management activities, and managing/mentoring a team of Portfolio Managers and Credit Underwriters with varying levels of experience. You will exercise lending authority and work closely with the Lending Team to ensure sound credit and lending decisions that align with the organization’s risk management objectives. 

Responsibilities:

Credit Analysis and Risk Assessment:

  • Conduct thorough review and signoff of commercial credit analyses with varying complexities, including financial statement analysis, collateral valuations, and guarantor analysis, for accuracy and to assess creditworthiness for new and existing borrowers;
  • Independently evaluate and assist direct reports with credit risk factors and determining the appropriateness of loan structure, terms and conditions;
  • Guide credit professionals with formulating and defending lending recommendations and risk rate assessments; 
  • Assess industry trends, economic conditions, and regulatory requirements to inform credit decisions;
  • Command thorough knowledge and familiarity with the Bank’s Loan Underwriting and Administration Guidelines (LUAG) and Loan Policy;           

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Portfolio Managers and Credit Underwriters as direct reports;
  • Manage workflow with the assigned team and communicate position expectations to direct reports;
  • Resolve personnel issues by analyzing data and individual production reports, investigating issues, identifying resolutions and recommending action plans;
  • Assist and participate in recruiting and hiring of Credit Professionals, including the interview, assessment, and onboarding process;
  • Prepare individual direct report reviews with input from the Lending Teams and SCCO; 
  • Identify resources for employee development and training in order to enhance the performance of your direct reports and enable them to grow within their position;

Portfolio Management:

  • Proactively monitor and manage credit risk to identify and address potential credit issues, including covenant violations, defaults, and deteriorating credit quality within an assigned portfolio; 
  • Direct and collaborate with team to initiate credit modifications and risk upgrading/downgrading, modify terms and frequency of covenants, financial reporting, collateral security, audit schedule, etc.; 
  • Responsible for the team maintaining and managing timely renewals of loan maturities and annual loan reviews;
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate covenant testing by credit team, approving waivers or issuance of reservation of rights letters if needed;
  • Continuous monitoring of current loans and credit lines to ensure compliance with terms and proactively manage risk/exposure and compliance with Bank’s Loan Underwriting and Administration Guidelines for assigned portfolio;
  • Work with team to identify early client risk/exposure and early detection of volatile industries and markets for assigned portfolio within designated region;

Lending Authority:

  • Negotiate terms and conditions with Loan Officers;
  • Approve extensions of credit and covenant waivers within delegated credit approval authority;
  • Participate as a rotating voting member of Senior Loan Approval Committee;

Relationship Management:

  • Assist Loan Officers as a member of the Bank’s customer facing client team serving as a liaison for clients and prospects;
  • Effectively communicate with SCCO in order to keep him/her apprised of any issues related to the assigned loan portfolios that warrant their input or attention;
  • Coordinate with Loan Officers in identifying cross-sell opportunities;
  • Assist in or lead special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6 Years of prior C&I Commercial Credit Analysis/Portfolio Manager experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent experience
  • Strong desire to lead and manage people
  • Proven analytical, communication, and decision making skills
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities
  • Experience with nCino desired
