Role Overview:

 

In Growth Engineering, our goal is to increase the number of Customers while also growing their purchase frequency and lifetime value. We build core platforms and services that power Coupang's growth and marketing efficiency. Systems in our portfolio include Search Advertising, Affiliates, Display targeting & re-targeting, CRM, Audience, Push Marketing, and other core marketing services for landing, tracking & attribution. ML opportunities across these areas include targeting, personalization, product & offer recommendations, budget optimization, real-time bidding, creative optimization, fraud detection, and many others.

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer in the Marketing Core Platform team, you will play a critical role building the infrastructure of the organization, improving operational efficiency and unlocking opportunities from it.  You will collaborate with business leaders, product owners, data analysts, data scientists, and teams from across Coupang to build and deploy data-driven solutions that will directly help our organizational mission.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and automate large-scale, real-time streaming data systems to drive business growth and enhance product experience
• Build scalable data infrastructure and pipelines using best-in-class software engineering practices
• Develop optimal data models for storage and retrieval, meeting critical product and business requirements
• Take full ownership: from development to operational health
• Establish and execute short and long-term architectural roadmaps
• Drive continuous improvement to the efficiency and flexibility of the data, platform, and services while maintaining a high bar for customer trust, performance, and availability
• Work with adjacent organizations to collaborate and drive solutions for ML serving and other processes
• Contribute to shared data engineering tools and standards, enhancing productivity and quality across Growth Engineering as well as Coupang as a whole

 

Basic Qualifications:

• 12+ years of professional software development experience
• 4+ years of domain expertise in Online Advertising with emphasis in Performance Marketing
• Distributed systems experience is a must: should be skilled at designing, implementing, and maintaining systems at scale, and working on tradeoffs based on business demand
• Proven results applying ML and other data-driven techniques appropriately to solve difficult optimization problems
• Experience with open-source frameworks and technologies like AWS, NoSQL, Big Data Technologies (Flink, Spark, Kafka, Elastic Search, Hive, Iceberg, Hudi etc.)
• Expertise in at least two major languages: C/C++, Go, Java, Python, etc.
• Excellent coding skills, with emphasis on data structures, algorithms, problem solving, refactoring, performance improvement and complexity analysis
• Taking ownership comes naturally to you and you thrive in an environment where priorities and requirements are not always clear
• Ability to work in a global, multi-cultural team
• Comfortable working and learning in an agile, fast-paced environment
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field
