Position Description
This position is being recruited as a GS-15 Cyber Security Engineer in the Excepted service. We are looking for a great hands-on engineer who can also help secure and enhance our resilient cybersecurity posture within the Department of Defense (DoD). This position will serve in the Defense Digital Service under the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO).

About the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office
The Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) is a Principal Staff Assistant (PSA) responsible for the acceleration of the adoption of data, analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate decision advantage across the Department of Defense (DoD). The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC), Defense Digital Services (DDS), Chief Data Office (CDO), and forward-leaning programs of record including Advana have officially joined together to form one organization‚ the CDAO! The CDAO is established to enable the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and other DoD Components, to swiftly introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's warfighting missions.
This role will close for submissions on March 12th, 2025 at 11:59:59pm.
What you'll do here:
- Facilitate the technical components of running bug bounties in DoD environments - configure the environment for a bounty event, evaluate reported vulnerabilities, and aid with remediation.
- Plan, implement, manage, monitor, and upgrade security measures for the protection of the organization's security boundary including our data, systems, and networks.
- Engineer, implement, and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks, and information.
- Identify and define system security requirements and troubleshoot security and network problems.
- Ensure that the organization's data and infrastructure are protected by enabling the appropriate security controls.
- Design computer security architecture and develop detailed cyber security designs.
- Prepare and document standard operating procedures and protocols.
- Configure and troubleshoot security infrastructure devices.
- Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
- Lead incident response efforts for the organization and communicate incident status effectively.
- Write comprehensive reports including assessment-based findings, outcomes, and propositions for further system security enhancement.
Technical Experience
- 5+ years of proven work experience with defensive cyber operations.
- Experience with red team efforts, offensive security, or penetration testing is required.
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, and/or Powershell.
- Detailed technical knowledge of database and operating system security.
- Experience in building and maintaining enterprise security systems.
