Position Summary:

The Business Development Manager works collaboratively with leadership, underwriting and the marketing team to create new relationships with independent agents and brokers and strengthen the standing relationships with independent agents and brokers. The Business Development Manager will work directly with business development leadership by overseeing and delegating the new business pipeline as well as managing ongoing daily affairs. They will provide support to strengthen current relationships through contact and customer service.

Essential Functions:

  • Ongoing management of the new business pipeline
  • Provide oversight to the business development division
  • Help manage, facilitate, and grow existing broker relationships
  • Maintain knowledge of producers, brokers, and clients’ methods of operations and procedures, which includes demographic, economic, and social characteristics to increase profitable market share
  • Manage the business process between the agents and the underwriters to ensure customer needs are met
  • Ongoing collaboration with underwriting to support new business opportunities
  • Analyze current business development and marketing strategies to identify best practices
  • Implementation of determined best practice strategies
  • Mentor, train, educate and oversee the business development division
  • Participation/facilitation of business development meetings
  • Coordinate opportunities for community engagement to strengthen the organization’s brand mission recognition 
  • Attend conferences and trade shows
  • Serve as a liaison between departments in order to abate missed business opportunities

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as marketing, communications, psychology, human/social services or business is preferred
  • Three years insurance field experience
  • Previous management experience preferred, but not required
  • Excellent people skills 
  • Self-starter, able to manage projects independently 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Mature, professional leadership skills and judgment
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills, work ethic and keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage workload with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about complex issues and develop resolutions

The target salary range for this position is $104,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually. The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs
