Chief Medical Officer – Deaconess Central Region
Location:
Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Deaconess Henderson Hospital
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Deaconess Central Region provides executive-level clinical leadership and medical staff management for Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Deaconess Gateway Hospital, and Deaconess Henderson Hospital. Reporting to the President of the Central Region and working consultatively with the President of the Physician Division, the CMO leads initiatives focused on clinical quality, physician engagement, credentialing, and performance improvement.
This role also serves as a critical liaison between employed providers, clinical leadership, and system administration, working collaboratively with the Central Region's elected medical staff leadership and administrative teams.
Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic and administrative leadership to medical staff services across the Central Region.

Support execution of Deaconess Health System’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Lead initiatives to meet or exceed standards in quality, compliance, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.

Facilitate ongoing communication among medical staff, nursing, and executive leadership.

Collaborate with finance and administrative teams on medical staff office budget oversight.

Support physician development, satisfaction, and engagement.

Oversee credentialing and peer review in coordination with hospital boards and medical directors.

Participate actively in process improvement efforts (e.g., Six Sigma), risk management, and strategic planning initiatives.

Represent Deaconess in collaborative efforts such as IHCI and Population Health programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Education & Experience
-
MD or DO degree from an accredited institution

Board Certified in a medical specialty

Minimum of 3 years of clinical leadership experience (e.g., CMO, Medical Director) in a multispecialty or hospital setting

Strong understanding of clinical operations, medical staff governance, and performance improvement
Additional Qualifications

Advanced training in healthcare leadership, such as:

Fellowship with the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE)

MBA, MMM, or equivalent degree

Documented expertise in healthcare management domains such as strategic planning, compliance, negotiation, and quality improvement

Licensure/Certifications
-
Active medical license in the applicable state(s)

Relevant leadership or executive training certifications (preferred)
