EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent, completion of Critical Care Paramedic Course (UMBC or equivalent) and three years recent Emergency Services experience preferred. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Current certification to practice as a paramedic in the State of applicable state and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. . Flight Paramedic Certification (FPC), Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), or International Trauma Life Support- Pediatric (ITLS-Pediatric) preferred, and required within one year from date of hire. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides patient/family centered care focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. This includes rapid evaluation of life threatening emergencies, implementation of prescribed therapies within scope of practice, collaboration with nursing and medical teams to establish treatment goals. 2. Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior. Utilizes and promotes the use of technology and equipment to enhance the safety of patients and staff. 3. Communicates effectively to promote sharing of information throughout the continuum of care and as an effective member of the healthcare team. 4. Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model. This includes participating in shared governance, adherence to standards of care, participation in peer review and professional development promoting leadership and clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice and acknowledgment of accountability for actions and critical thinking. 5. Acts as a patient advocate throughout the continuum of care including all patient settings and in the community. 6. Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes. 7. Provides education to referral hospital staff members, community support, as well as provides support services within the organization as needed. Collaborates with PALS line on referrals from outside hospitals requesting transport of their patient. Listens to referral MD/RN conversations to gauge acuity, equipment requirements, feasibility, etc. Connect referral physician and accepting physician if ongoing issues are detected during wait. 8. Assists referring facility with their transport needs in collaboration with AirCom. If WFBMC is unable to complete, updates referral facilities if ETA is extended in collaboration with AirCom. Triages/assigns transport requests to meet referral agency expectations if indicated. 9. Maintains a working knowledge of the general location/availability of each asset (ground and air) and relative position to the referring facility. 10. Performs Transport Coordinator duties as needed.
