Job Description
Work in a dynamic environment in the field of Oncology! The Lead Laboratory Assistant provides general laboratory support functions for the Companion Diagnostic development group. Those functions include (but are not limited to) ordering and stocking supplies, washing and autoclaving laboratory dish-ware, tracking/performing equipment maintenance, filing, and some data entry. The Laboratory Assistant will also be required to assist in overseeing the implementation, validation and evaluation of new equipment used in the histology laboratory. Availability of time beyond the Laboratory Assistant duties may be targeted toward Histology tasks such as microtomy, embedding, immunohistochemical staining and digital slide scanning. The specific nature of these tasks will change as current projects are finished and new ones start. This lead role is responsible for overseeing compliance of all equipment Periodic Maintenance, Calibrations, procedures and alidations. Manages department assets and oversees distribution of workflows between all Lab Assistants.

Responsibilities:
• Collect/wash/autoclave/shelve laboratory dish-ware
• Maintain equipment, supplies and chemical/hazardous material rooms
• Tend to general lab maintenance/repair/safety
• Maintain Tissue Bank and Stained Slide Bank
• Oversee training and task delegation to other Lab Assistants
• Responsible for department chemical inventory, equipment, and assets ensuring compliance.
• Other duties as needed
This position requires adhering to established laboratory policies/guidelines while maintaining a safe working environment. This position will require accurate document recording to comply with various internal and external regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A.A. or A.S. or higher in Biological Science, Basic Science or related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-6 years experience as a Laboratory Assistant in a clinical or research laboratory.
- Knowledgeable in Pathology tissue/disease nomenclature preferred.
- Attention to detail and works to complete all tasks in an organized manner.
- Capability of performing multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately. Able to quickly adjust to changing workloads and priorities.
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements concerning chemical hygiene, biohazards and blood borne pathogens. Demonstrated capability of safely handling carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials/reagents is desired.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with Oracle and or Agile or other inventory control and document change systems is preferred.
- Skills: Equipment and inventory maintenance.
- Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
- Leadership skills to include ability to assign and delegate tasks, excellent training skills, and ability to handle complex problem solving.

This job has a full time weekly schedule. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
