Located at Miami Valley Hospital (Dayton, Ohio)
Full-Time Day Shift (8:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
Full-Time Evening Shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM)
Position Summary:
Perform testing procedures and protocols in area of responsibility. Position requires the consistent exercising of independent judgment, discretion and interpretation of a continual variety of test variables and results.
Responsibilities:
• Perform frozen section preparation, including cutting and staining; complete bone marrow procedures.
• Assist in FNA procedures (Thyroid, CT-guided, EBUS, Navigational) and stain slides for adequacy.
• Prepare and package specimens for histology, cytology, and special testing; send out consults and slides as needed.
• Maintain and file slides, blocks, and all pathology-related paperwork and orders.
• Schedule autopsies, track HEAL remains, and coordinate cremations.
• Pull and prepare cases for Tumor Board, Breast Conference, Head & Neck Conference, and legal reviews.
• Maintain procedure manuals for surgical pathology, histology, and cytology; update on-call schedules via QGenda.
• Perform monthly maintenance of cryostats and staining lines.
• Load patient specimens onto laboratory instruments.
• Float to phlebotomy, specimen processing, and other hospital locations as needed.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory, departmental, and company policies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Preferred experience is 2 to 3 years of clinical lab work. Certification as a certified Medical Laboratory Assistant is preferred, but not required.
Safety and Physical Demands:
• Work safely with exposure to biohazardous substances and hazardous chemicals; follow all company safety, ergonomic, and health policies.
• Adhere to PPE requirements in labs and biohazard areas; complete all required safety training and health evaluations on time.
• Proactively identify and address safety risks; promote a culture of safety awareness.
• Demonstrate strong computer skills, including accurate data entry and basic analysis in a potentially noisy environment.
• Utilize medical terminology and maintain professional telephone etiquette.
• Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and coworkers using strong interpersonal skills.
• Apply organizational, critical thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning abilities to manage multiple tasks; use good judgment and initiative.
• Maintain visual acuity and hand-finger dexterity for prolonged computer and fine-motor tasks.
• Ensure accuracy and integrity in all test performance and result reporting.
• Physically able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs over 50 yards, lift 25 lbs to a height of 5 feet, and walk short distances repeatedly.
• Remain calm and perform effectively under pressure or in stressful situations.
