Position Overview:

SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)

The Community Pharmacy Technician role is a patient facing a position whose primary responsibility is to satisfy the needs of each patient and/or customer.  Technicians will be expected to assist in the provision of pharmaceutical services under the supervision of the Registered Pharmacist by performing the technical, clerical, and manipulative tasks involved in dispensing, preparing, and distributing all medications and pharmaceutical products for all patient age groups.  The technician is tasked with maintaining statistical records and is responsible for maintaining, rotating, and inspecting the pharmaceutical and miscellaneous inventory of the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalency.

Experience:

  • Current pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) or acquire CPhT within 12 months of employment.
  • Current NJ Board of Pharmacy Registration or acquire the registration within 6 months of employment.
  • One year of pharmacy experience preferred (inpatient or outpatient)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic computer software and mathematical skills
  • Effective oral and written English Communication
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Customer service:  Meeting customer needs in a kind, efficient and solution-based mentality.  The technician is to prioritize customer service in all elements of the business.
  • Assist licensed pharmacists to formulate, label and dispense medications and other health care products in accordance with regulatory requirements and expectations outlined by the State of NJ Board of Pharmacy
  • Script adjudication: Ability to independently complete the entire operation flow of prescription adjudication, including maintaining patient profile integrity, utilizing software functionality and successfully leveraging third payer parameters.
  • Point of Sale: Technician will facilitate the final step of medication leaving the pharmacy into the hands of the patient. This includes but is not limited to technician delivering bedside medications to hospital inpatient locations, multi-hospital in person sales as well as remote location courier services.
  • Be able to work independently at a remote location, completing assigned, non-preparation tasks, with minimal direct supervision
  • Inventory Management: Manage and monitor inventory of all drugs and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage conditions. This includes understanding the expectations outlined between legend, controls, OTCs, & 340B purchases.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records all pharmaceutical activities, including batch records, signature logs, and quality control documentation, invoices
  • Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with colleagues, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to meet the needs of patients and ensure the timely delivery of medications.
  • Ability to leverage multiple EMR systems
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including the handling of hazardous drugs, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, hand hygiene and waste disposal.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay current with industry trends, guidelines, and best practices related to retail and specialty pharmacy through ongoing education and training.
  • Answers phones and greet customers according to established etiquette
  • Fills controlled substance orders and reconciled all discrepancies on a daily basis
  • Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to ensure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management
  • Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 8 hours a day.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
