Purpose

Oversee and manage all aspects of the Department of Investigation and Adjudication (DIA), which investigates certain policy violations, including civil rights, adjudicates Title IX and related claims, and reinforces the university's commitment to compliance with University policy and state and federal law. DIA is part of University Risk and Compliance Services and the position reports to the Chief Compliance Officer.

Responsibilities

  • The Associate Vice President for Investigation and Adjudication oversees the investigation process for several University polices including: Non-discrimination policy (including Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964), Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX, Consensual Relationships, Nepotism, Family and Medical Leave, Religious Accommodations, Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, and Prohibition from Retaliation (Whistleblower), in both the employment and student context.
  • Oversees the adjudication, including facilitating Title IX hearings and appeals, of alleged violations of the aforementioned polices.
  • Supervises the investigation and administrative staff employed in the portfolio.
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating a uniform set of procedures for investigators and adjudicators to follow, monitoring the timeliness of investigations and hearings, and otherwise ensuring the quality of institutional investigations and adjudication of reports of discrimination.
  • Build partnerships with campus stakeholders, including providing regular updates to senior leadership on sensitive matters that impact departments under their direction.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in investigating civil rights claims or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Juris Doctorate degree. More than 5 years of experience in higher education investigating and adjudicating workplace discrimination, including Titles VI, VII,
