Software Engineering Manager

Our client is a high-growth startup at the forefront of space technology. Their mission is to revolutionize access to space through innovative engineering and rapid iteration. As a Software Engineering Manager you’ll lead a small team of 6–8 engineers, driving progress as both a manager and a hands-on developer. This is a player-coach role where you’ll juggle three key areas:

Product Ownership:
Own the team backlog, create detailed requirements, and partner with product/design teams to shape strategy.

People Management:
Mentor team members, drive career growth, and oversee hiring (and tough decisions when necessary).

Individual Contribution:
Write production code, fix bugs, implement features, and perform code reviews.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the team’s software development lifecycle from backlog to delivery.
• Define priorities and translate product vision into actionable tasks.
• Collaborate closely with technical leaders to enhance architecture, quality, and reduce technical debt.
• Balance hands-on coding with strategic leadership to drive measurable outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

• 10-15 years in software development with a strong record in SaaS system delivery.
• Experience leading and growing technical teams in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Proven track record as an individual contributor—from design through production.
• Excellent communication skills with prior on-call/incident response involvement.

Preferred Skills

• Expertise in modern web development frameworks (e.g., ReactJS) and building reliable APIs.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices (Docker, AWS) and CI/CD (GitHub Actions, CircleCI).
• Bonus if you have experience with Next.js, Apollo, or similar tools.
