About the role:
The Environmental Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing environmental programs and procedures to follow regulatory requirements and to meet Operational and Corporate objectives. The person in this position is vital to maintain compliance with laws, regulations, and/or orders and to provide efficient, technically sound solutions to environmental problems. Activities, responsibilities, and services of this position are applicable to Massena Operations site-wide. This position must help support and handle the implementation of all environmental standards and protocols in order to achieve a major environmental incident free workplace in an exciting business environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gain knowledge and experience in plant processes, engineering procedures and federal and state environmental laws and regulations. Demonstrate interest and initiative in assigned area
- Demonstrate growing independence in projects and activities; may handle small projects independently. Exhibit workload and project management skills
- Be open and accessible on the plant floor every day. Establish a good working relationship with peers, associates, and others at all levels
- Develop an awareness of the economic and safety impact environmental decisions have on the facility
- Collaborate with manufacturing departments regarding programs and practices to address areas of concern
- Handle the Alcoa Waste ASAT (self-assessment tool) by functioning as the plant responsible person
- Lead on-the-floor audits and ensure follow up to successfully close gaps
What you can bring to this role:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental/civil engineering or equivalent and capability to meet the experience of an entry level engineering job.
- Detailed understanding or ability to learn EPA and NYSDEC environmental regulations as well as a demonstrated understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be self-motivating with excellent facilitator and problem-solving skills.
- Must have good knowledge of operations and procedures and be capable of communicating and collaborating effectively with others

Base salary: $69,000 - $94,500 USD annuallyTotal rewards packages listed, including base salary and bonus eligibility, applies to US based applicants only. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on a range of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies in conjunction with multiple components of the Employee Total Rewards Package. Alcoa reserves the right to change plans at its discretion.About the Location
