Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Switchboard Operator I for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to perform routine work in operating a Department of Human Services, 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load. Talks to individuals during the operation of the switchboard. Serves as receptionist and receives and sorts facility mail. Performs routine clerical tasks.
Essential Functions

Performs routine work in operating a Department of Human services 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load.

Responds to and maintains records for emergency calls such as fire, medical, police etc.

Serves as receptionist.

Receives and sorts facility mail.

Performs routine clerical tasks involving the operation of simple manual or automated office equipment.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill and mental developmental equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.

Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
